FAVORITE LOCAL SPOTS
As KC begins to awaken from an unprecedented year in which many of our beloved businesses had to shut their doors, and in many cases close for good, we thought we'd list just a few of our very favorite local spots to shop, hang out, and enjoy great food and drink.
So as the world opens back up, GET OUT THERE and enjoy the BEST of what Kansas City has to offer. You'll be supporting our local businesses in the process!
1. ROOM 39
LOCATION: 1719 W 39th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111
This is probably our most frequented spot for lunch during the week, especially if we have a little time to enjoy ourselves. Andrew and the staff always make us feel like beloved regulars, and the food and drinks can't be beat! With a casual-urban vibe and a menu cultivated from fresh farm-to-table ingredients, there's certainly something to suit everyone's palette. For lunch I usually gravitate toward either the Chicken or Steak Bowl, or if I'm in the mood for breakfast for lunch, I go for the Croque Madame (it's heavenly!). Or try the 8oz R39 Burger, it's fantastic and a true classic (Mickey's go-to)!
When the mood is right, try one their signature cocktails...some of the city's best! If you're a whiskey lover like me, I recommend the Black Manhattan (a delicious Manhattan variation) or the Green Point (another Manhattan variation featuring Green Chartreuse). Not your thing, go for a Mezcal Negroni, Vesper Martini, or one of the many craft beer and wine selections they offer.
Located in the heart of Midtown on 39th Street, this KC original is definitely one to check out for breakfast, lunch, or an elegant night out with an intimate group of friends or your special someone.

2. Westport Cafe
LOCATION: 419 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111
This French inspired restaurant is truly a local gem, with an absolute killer bar program and top notch culinary offerings. Definitely on the top of my list for an intimate night out, the charm and ambience can't be beat and these guys really know how to provide you with a fantastic dining experience!
The menu has been carefully cultivated and changes seasonally. My all time favorite is the Faroe Island Salmon, at the moment served rolled in lettuce leaf with pickled ginger and citrus-soy beurre blanc sauce. I've had many iterations of this delicious dish...each very satisfying. Other favorites include the Pea Ravioli in brown butter lemon sauce and Seared Diver Scallops in black truffle risotto.
And you MUST dive into their cocktail list! They really have developed an excellent bar program, complete with a list of new progressive concoctions alongside deeply revered classics. Their Clarified Milk Punch is legendary, it's clear unassuming presentation and light sweet character seriously belie the mighty ABV that it packs. The Black & Brown is a Manhattan variation using brown butter washed bourbon and Averna amaro. Or for a little pick-me-up, try the Supersonic Rocket Ship featuring reposado tequila with cold brewed coffee, tamarind, ancho Chile, and a hit of orange bitters.
Just west of the corner of Westport Road and Broadway, this spot is a MUST GO for anyone who has not yet been. Take a date or a couple of friends...you'll be glad you did.

3. SWANKY!
LOCATION: 3410 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64111
Rounding out our short list is a MUST GO spot if you're looking for that one-of-a kind home decor item. Rick Villa and Scott Higgins have cultivated one of the finest interior design galleries in the city, showcasing unique vintage and antique furnishings, local & folk art, rugs, and designer lamps and lighting. In addition, they also offer interior design services, art selection and installation, home staging and remodeling assistance.
Located in Midtown off Main Street, this is one shop you have to put on your KC Bucketlist! Both Rick and Scott are close friends of ours and we've had the pleasure of co-hosting many gatherings in the event space located in the gallery. We have to say, not only do these guys have a keen eye for style, they also throw a fantastic party!
